Introduction
Q-Xpress is a program designed to help you download and install content for the Sims 2. You can queue up many files to download and do everything in the background, freeing your time to browse for more great content. For more information, click hereQ-Xpress and Windows Vista
Hi All,
Just a quick note about trying to use Q-Xpress on Windows Vista - it probably won’t work! I do not have Vista on my machines and have no intention of getting it or installing it - and especially not using it as a development platform - for quite some time.
If you have problems with running or downloading with Q-Xpress on Vista - sorry but you are out of luck. You’ll have to try downloading manually.
Q-Xpress 1.1.9 released!
This is a maintenance release that just removes the .lock file from program startup. It is recommended everybody get this version.
Q-Xpress Source Release
Hi All,
I have decided to give everybody (well, those who are programmers and know vb6), an early christmas present and release the source code to the Q-Xpress Installer. It’s not cleaned up at all, and probably hard to understand if you aren’t a programmer, but I don’t have time to maintain the program right now and I figured a community release would be good. All I ask is that discussion of the source code is confined to the forum here, and any unofficial patches also get released here so I can roll them into the main source tree.
The forum post with more details is here: http://www.q-xpressinstaller.com/forum/index.php?topic=173.msg952, and the actual source code at http://www.q-xpressinstaller.com/source/QXpress118src.rar
Have fun and have a happy christmas!
Version 1.1.8 released!
This is a maintenance bugfix release:
- Fixed bug where Sims type Sims2Pack files where not installed correctly
- Fixed minor bugs with general installation of Sims2Pack files
Version 1.1.6 released!
This is a maintenance bugfix release:
- Uninstall script now correctly removes all start menu and program files files (with the exception of the downloads folder which is user downloaded data, and the history.xml) (Thanks Heatwave)
Also, I would like any of you who have My Documents locations on different drives than normal and having problems with Q-Xpress to contact me. I have checked on multiple machines and can’t replicate this error so any help is appreciated. Post in the Forums if you have this issue.
Version 1.1.5 released!
Hi All,
This is a bugfix version of Q-Xpress which fixes the following bugs:
- Fixed incorrect link on About dialog (thanks cpicon92)
- Fixed rare occurance where a file would be downloaded a large number of times in a row before crashing the program
- Fixed Q-Xpress crashing with runtime errors when installed on a PC that doesn’t have the Sims 2 on it
- Added creation of default registry keys if they don’t exist
- Added ability to delete single items using the delete key instead of the right click menu
With the addition of the 3rd point above, Q-Xpress can now be used simply as a download manager, for later copying of files to a PC that does have the Sims 2 installed on it. Not that while running in this mode it will not attempt to copy any files to My Documents, and instead simply moves any downloaded .zip or .rar files to the Q-Xpress install path\downloads folder. You can then copy the contents of this folder to a USB drive or another machine, for later Local Install or manual install.
Please post any problems with this version in the Support Forum
Version 1.1.4 released!
Hi All,
This is to announce the release of Q-Xpress v1.1.4.
- Fixed bug with mts:// urls not showing up in Q-Xpress
- Added qxpress:// protocol, to automatically grab .qxpress files from a fileserver
- Fixed bug with Lots and Sims not being installed correctly into the teleport folder
- Changed History queue to use new XML format (should fix various runtime errors from corrupted histories)
- Changed order of the history listbox so it now shows the most recently installed items first
- Removed filename box from main MTS2 install list, and incorporated it into the Download column
- Renamed MTS2 install to Web Install
Download using the download link at the right.
Support Forum
I have created a standalone forum for Q-Xpress support issues, seperate from MTS2. This is due in part becuase Q-Xpress is no longer just an MTS2 only product, but can be used to install content from multiple Sims 2 Sites.
All support questions should now be directed to the new forum, located via the Support Forum link on the main page, or via http://www.q-xpressinstaller.com/forum/
Installation issues / when upgrading, still shows old version
A lot of people seem to be having issues where they download the latest version, install but when they run Q-Xpress again it still has whatever old version they where using.
The solution to this is simple - you cannot install Q-Xpress while the program is running, since then it wont overwrite the file (most people report they get “Error writing C:\Program Files\ModTheSims2.com\Q-Xpress Installer\QXpress.exe”. This means the program is already running in the background.
To fix this either:
- Completely uninstall the old Q-Xpress, reboot and then install the new
- Use Task Manager to close the QXpress.exe procress, then install the new
- Reboot and then run the install program
You can check if you have the latest version by going to Start -> Programs -> ModTheSims2.com -> Q-Xpress Installer. If, when you click on the start menu shortcut, you get the latest version, then you have successfully installed the software.
Version 1.1.3 released!
This version fixes a bug were non-MTS2 .qxpress files where not parsed correctly, resulting in them not working on other sites.
It also adds the ability to have multiple files specified within the same .qxpress file - this functionality is now implemented on MTS2 and requires everybody to update as the existing 1.1, 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 (if you had it) programs will no longer work.
Thanks to Fat D for the bug tracking help.
It is a REQUIRED update
